Check out this short digital storytelling presentation that tells my story of being a preschool extended school year teacher this past summer. Using the digital storytelling method is a fun and engaging way to bring a story to life. When students use this type of method in school, they have endless opportunities to use their creativity to make an original video that shows their skill level with certain aspects of technology. If they feel they lack the skills needed to complete an assignment this, there are endless tutorials that could walk them step by step. Instead of asking students to write a paper or take a test in order to find out what they know and do not know, a teacher could ask a student to create a digital storytelling video that incorporates various images, video clips, music, and effects. This type of technology gives students an opportunity to wow their teacher with uniqueness that excites themselves and their teacher. Incorporating technology into the classroom while teaching literacy, is referred to as multi modal literacy. Multi modal literacy gives students a variety of ways to learn a specific aspect of literacy that they may not be able to grasp using the paper and pencil method or book method. Multi modal teaching gives students choices and freedom.
