Assistive Technology

Assistive technology is any tool used in the classroom to help a student meet a need they are not already meeting without any AT.

AT could be categorized as "no tech," such as a student using a pencil gripper on a pencil to help him grasp a pencil correctly.

It could also be categorized as "low tech," such as a student inserting information into an online graphic organizer to help him comprehend what he is reading.

Lastly, it could be categorized as "high tech," such as a student using a speech to text software program that types out what he says for him because he is unable to type on a keyboard.

Check out this short Prezi presentation and SETT Model that lays out a variety of AT tools used to help a student named Jack.
